AWI World Championship - La Mirada, CA

Well, we had a decent freestyle round that I felt good about. We got a lot of good feedback too. So when we ended up in 20th place, I was a little surprised. But after watching video of the routine, I understand our placement. The routine is a little low on energy, and not as flowing as it should be. Bailey and I learned a LOT this weekend, and if he's up for it, we're going to try some new tricks next year. Looking forward to another year of disc dogging!

20th Place

Quadruped - Denver Colorado

This was our second Quadruped competition. With Bailey being injured most of the year, I really wasn't sure how he would do. Last year we quite surprisingly took 3rd place at this storied and LONG RUNNING competition. It was quite beyond any hope that fortune would smile on us a second time.

But smile upon us it did. Using strategy, and a little luck with the wind, we were once again able to weasel our way into the final four competitors. And this time we didn't choke. We outlasted everyone except the eventual Quadruped Champion and Quadruped Series champion, John Troelstrup & Rooster.

2nd Place - Men's Open Division!

Colorado Canine Challenge/UFO Major - Denver, Colorado

This was probably the soggiest competition in which I have EVER competed. It poured with thunder and lightening for the entire first half of Day 1. But the sun did peek out eventually, and we were able to complete the competition.

UFO Major - La Mirada, CA

This was a blistering day of 105 degree heat (I think it was hotter). The event was two days, but I pulled Bailey after his first round of Toss and Catch. We didn't come back for day 2. Just too darn hot to safely play with my 72 pound monster.

We ended up 9th with only one round of Toss and Fetch for the competition.

This was a particularly bad competition. Why? Because it is when I first realized Bailey was hurting.

14th Place - Open Division
- Out of 16 teams

We didn't finish our freestyle routine, and we didn't even attempt our Toss & Catch round.

Ashley Whippet World Championships - Scottsdale, AZ

One of the most anticipated competitions of the year. We have competitors from all over the world competing against one another in a friendly battle to see who reigns supreme in the realm of Disc Dogging.

Teams from Japan, Germany, Netherlands, and other non US origins came to compete the best that the US had to offer.

20th Place

Not so bad considering anyone that would travel around the world with their dog to compete is probably VERY DAMN GOOD!

Wow, lots of competitors! Was scheduled for three rounds of competition, but with 71 teams we could only get through two rounds before it was 5PM. Unfortunately the round that got cut was Bailey and my favorite event, Speed Disk. But even without the Speed Disc round, my lil boy Bailey still managed to grab 2nd Place! A very respectable finish behind the always very good and consistent team of Al and his Rat Terrier George. And with some of the best teams in So. Cal out there as well, Benny Wong & KD, Sung & Clutch, Alan & Jasper, and a host of others, I'm very proud of my White Thunder.

2nd Place - Open (Freestyle & Circle Disc)

Wags for Wishes USDDN - Del Mar, CA

This is one of the big events of the year in California. In cooperation with the Make-A-Wish foundation the USDDN holds it's Western Regional competition to determine which Disc Dogs teams from the West will be invited to the World Championships in November held in Kentucky. The top 5 teams garner an invitation.

This event is 3 full days of Disc action (along with every other Dog sporting event under the sun).

On Saturday the USDDN held the Super Open Freestyle division to determine the top 5 teams that will get an invitation to Kentucky.

Bailey and I had probably one of our best weekends of disc dogging to date! We finished 3rd amongst some of the best disc doggers in California and even some from nearby states.

On Sunday the USDDN help the Super Toss & Fetch division to determine the top 5 teams to be invited to Kentucky in Toss and Fetch only. We we able to pull out a 2nd place there! But we are allowed only to accept one invitation.

So...

July 7th, 2007 - Super Open Freestyle

3rd Place

July 8th, 2007 - Super Toss & Fetch

2nd Place

UFO Major - Scottsdale, AZ

Well this is the big LAST CHANCE qualifying event for those not invited to the big shows of the UFO Finals and Ashley Whippet Invitational (Combined into the same competition) in Scottsdale Arizona. This event is held on Friday, and if you qualify by obtaining enough UFO points you get to participate over the weekend.

Well, we go out and put up our best freestyle round ever at 32.9 points only to follow it up with one of our worst Toss & Catch rounds of 9 points.

We ended up in 18th Place for the day (not so bad when you think that these are competitors from all around the country) and we end up a point or two short of qualifying for the event. Disappointing, but this event has SOOO much going on that Bailey and I had a blast anyway.

So...

18th Place - Open

2nd - Open Division

Included Freestyle, Circle Disc, and Speed Disc.

We got the highest Circle Disc score with a 22! I believe the highest reasonably possible is around 24 points, so not too shabby by my boy.

Bailey loves the circle competition. Brief description, we stand in the middle of a
17 yd diameter circle, and your dog has to catch the disc outside of the circle and in the air for the highest score as many times as possible in 60 seconds.
