Recap - Fullerton 3/18/06 - Skyhoundz Local Championship
Hello Disc Doggers and welcome to the 2006 season of Disc Dogs in Southern California!
The season was kicked off in great style in Fullerton at the Muckenthaler Cultural Center. The forecast called for a wet and soggy day, but as the dawn gave way to the day, we were treated to a beautiful day full a sunshine and and white fluffy clouds. KIIS FM setup a tent and gave away free stuff, and the competitors put on a show for those in attendance.
My contributions for the day were purely as a judge. And Bailey was just a spectator, something he was not really happy about. I really learned alot about the sport of Disc Dog Freestyle from a day of official judging. I learned how important a nice flow to a routine can be. I learned how important it is to stay within your and your dog's abilities, and I learned the importance of a well choreographed routine.
Ron Cole and Austin start off the season with a strong demonstration of Distance Accuracy exellence by posting a single sound score of 15.5 and a combined score of 27.5 to take first place in the Intermediate division. Ron's scores out performed all the Open competitor distance accuracy scores, except for one, himself. Neil Furukawa and Belle take second with a solid 24.5 and Neil posts the second highest round at the competition with a 14. Brian Urioste and Brooke Lynne come in at third with a strong 21.5.
In the Open/Freestyle Division Al Erikson and George put on a great show showing that the size of your dog doesn't really matter, no matter what they say! Little George (a rat terrier) chased down amazing frizbee toss after toss, and drew gasps of appreciation from the crowd as he hopped all over Al catching disc after disc. When these two are on their game, they are a lot of fun to watch and VERY hard to beat. Joseph Jones and Kylie were putting on an amazing performance of power and skill when Kylie all of a sudden got side tracked by some of her sideline admirers and by the time Joseph corraled his charge back to the task at hand, his scores unfortunately already took a major hit. It really shows you how well he nwas doing that he still was able to garner a second place. Jaeleen Sattler and Storm took third place and, as usual, put on another great show that is always fun to watch.
Thank you to everyone that came out to watch and/or participated.
