Recap - West Los Angeles 3/25/06 - UFO Local Championship
The second event of the Southern California Disc Dog season was held at the Cheviot Hills Recreation Center in West los Angeles this past weekend. This event was my first attempt at organizing a disc dog event. Special Thanks go out to the Disc Dogs in Southern California club members for helping in making the competition a reality by contributions towards the oraganizing the event and for coming out and being competitors. In particular I couldn't have done it without the contributions of Benny and Becky Wong, and the judges who graciously gave up a weekend of competing to assess the merits of our effort - Joseph Jones, Tom Clark, and Mike Miller.
Again we were treated to great Disc Doggin' weather, with very little wind, and a nice light could cover to keep the sun out of the pups eyes. After navigating a few mud puddles during the setup of the event (they weren't suppose to turn on the darn sprinklers the night before), we ended up with a great field and a number of spectators to root the combatants on.

Open/Freestyle Division:
So I'm proud to report Bailey FINALLY achieved his first top finish in the Open/Freestyle division! With a decent Freestyle routine and a strong Toss and Fetch round we were able to eek out a win over Ron Cole and Annie, and Benny Wong and KD. I think the combination of Bailey watching from the sidelines last week, and a few insights gleaned by me from judging at the Fullerton event gave us just the boost we needed. As mentioned above, Ron Cole and Annie made a very strong showing themselves by posting the highest round of Toss and Catch for the competition. This strong round of Toss and Fetch along with a good Freestyle routine garnered the only other Lab in competition a second place finish. Wow, Labbies take first and second at a Disc Dog competition, what is the world coming to? Benny Wong and KD, as usual, came out and wowed the crowd with yet another great Freestyle routine, but came up a little short in the Toss and Fetch round to wind up in 3rd place. The best Freestyle performance of the day was turned in by Alan Thibodo and Jasper.Open/FreeStyle Final Standings:

Distance Accuracy (Toss & Fetch):
The Toss and Fetch division was topped by a great performance from David Procida and his new up and coming pup Lobo. Two solid rounds landed them in the 1st spot. Mike Miller and the Great Ruckus Leapt into 2nd place. Few dogs leap like Ruckus once he zeros in on the disc. And Ron Cole grabs more hardware by Tossing plastic to Breezy for a third place finish. Ron Also grabbed 4th with Bullet.Distance Accuracy (Toss & Fetch) Final Standings:
