Recap - Arcadia 07/15/06 - SkyHoundz Local Championship
What a fun little competition Arcadia puts on each year. This year we only did a single division of Toss & Fetch. It was light-hearted, fast paced, and all-in-all a lot of fun. With the temperatures threatening to reach 100 degrees we were all cuddled together under whatever shade was afforded us along the fences by the merciful and cordial trees. The city of Arcadia provided an almost unlimited supply a free bottled water, and a slew of judges. Even though they had enough people to officiate a BaseBall game, they were all smart and stayed huddled under their tent shade and sent out, obviously low man on the totem, a lone lines-person to brave the heat.
The competition consisted of two 60 second rounds of Toss & Fetch according to SkyHoundz rules. The only competitor to triumph against the heat and swirling winds was Ron Cole with his borrowed doggie Austin. The judges initially miscalculated his two rounds of 15.5 and 14.0 to a total of 19 points and he was asked to take place in a third place tie-break round, of which he won. Bailey and I took second place with a decent second round score of 13.5 and a first round score of 7, and Ron Cole and Annie were awared first place! After the plaques were given out we took a closer look at the score sheets and realized that in fact Austin dominated the field with a two round total of 29.5 points, Annie took second, and Bailey earned third. No worries though, Ron was eventually awarded the first & second place plaques due to my altruistic heart... Ok, ok... Benny made sure Ron got his due. They had to pry that darn second place plaque from my fingers!!! ;-) Bailey was a bit disapointed in my sportsmanship and didn't bark at me the whole trip home.
Actually, everybody took it in good humor, and we all had a blast. Look forward to coming out to Arcadia next year, just hope they decide to run a Freestyle Division.
